Digital data are volatile - Nothing is as volatile as digital data
Consumer storage media have one thing in common: there’s no guarantee that the contents can still be read 100% after 5 years. A long term test by German magazine PCpro showed that self-made CDs may easily lose part of their data after 5 years, even if they are stored in the best kind of environment and a Google research project on hard disk longevity showed a 1,7 % failure rate for the first year and 8,6 % for the third year.
There is only one cure against digital data loss: regular and frequent complete new backups on different media. In addition you need to make sure you store several copies at a different location to protect your data against theft or for example water damage.
FAST LTA Gigabnk project
The german company FAST LTA offers now the perfect online-backup for all important data: the GIGABANK Project.
Gigabank lets you store pictures, documents, music, favourite lists and other important files. Your account is safeguarded in a highly secure WORM storage in Switzerland. Never worry again about viruses, hard disk crashes, human errors or theft. Files stored in Gigabank cannot be deleted and are distributed across three different locations.
The comany offer three different options for the upload quota: 4, 10 or 20 GB.
All files are protected in the Gigabank using the unrivaled, patent pending FAST LTA WORM technology. WORM stands for write once, read many and that means your files cannot be deleted or altered accidentally by FAST LTA or by yourself. All files are also secured against attacks from viruses or other kind of malware and hackers.
Great idea: pay only once and forget it for 5 years
There are so many spies around the world and employees are very interested about internal information of a company. But sometimes it is much more securely to write a document and save it at a place who nobody knows. In Germany, the goverment want to realise a project with the name Onlinedurchsuchung. That means to send a trojan software via the Internet to PCs of terrorists. The big problem for everybody: no software is perfect and if the trojan damage files - who can help if files are missing. The trojan comes hidden and the population of Germany, maybe the world, have to secure their data. If the first trojan is public - wait a little bit and this packet goes around the world.
So many companies save their data on CDs or on another fix disk. But if the second fix disk is damaged, a fire was in the office or a burgler was inside - what is answer?
Gigabank saves all information absolute secure in Switzerland. A perfect idea to save all important information. (documenhts, excel sheets or whatever) The goverments around the world cannot contact the swiss goverment to find out what kind of documents are in the safe. Switzerland was and is protected.
The software protect the files against misuse when you use the Gigabank software and the online access. Each transfer into your account and from your account is done via an SSL protected 128 bit secure line. In addition you have the option of encrypting files with a personal password. This 256 bit AES standard encryption ensures confidentiality so that very important files are 100% safe from unwanted access.
The best of all: New clients/user start with a 1 Gigabyte for free and that gives you a full five years for all of your stored files.
The Gigabank account is free of charge. When you open the account they will give you 1 GB upload quota for your WORM archive storage free of charge. You may use this 1 GB at your convenience to upload valuable files. These files will be safeguarded in Switzerland for 5 years. If you are satisfied with your account and have more files that you would like to upload, you can purchase additional upload quota to extend your WORM archive. You have the choice between 4, 10 or 20 GB. Each time you make a purchase the retention period is re-started for all your files for 5 years from data of purchase.
